Bennett Chenene, a former legend of Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana, has pledged to support young soccer players in Zastron, a town famed for its rich football heritage.

His vow highlights not only his commitment to the sport but also his aspiration to nurture the next generation of talent in the region.

Chenene made these inspiring comments on Saturday during the launch of the Zastron Greater Orlando Pirates Branch, held at Mooifontein Primary School Hall.

This launch was more than a formality; it marked a new beginning for aspiring soccer players in Zastron and its neighbouring areas.

Chenene stressed that his visit was chiefly aimed at providing tangible support and creating valuable opportunities for the young boys of Zastron, who aspire to make their mark in soccer.

In his address, Chenene underscored his dedication to discovering talented players from the local community.

He shared his intention to not only identify promising athletes but also offer them the necessary support to attend trials in Johannesburg, where he currently lives.

This support includes arranging accommodation for the players, ensuring their path to achieving their soccer dreams is as smooth as possible.

To make his support more accessible, Chenene generously shared his personal contact numbers with the attendees.

He encouraged parents to contact him if they needed help taking their children to trials.

He clarified that the only obligation for the parents would be to provide food for their children during this period, as he would handle all other logistics.

This gesture underscores his commitment not just to the players but also to their families, acknowledging that their support is vital in the quest for athletic excellence.

Chenene's distinguished career began at Winners Park, where he developed his skills before moving to AmaZulu.

His breakthrough came in 2007 when he joined the renowned Orlando Pirates, a club with a rich history in South African soccer.

After a significant stint with the Pirates until 2010, he continued to display his talent at other notable clubs like Bloemfontein Celtic, Moroka Swallows, and SuperSport United.

His time with these clubs was marked by notable achievements, including winning the 2012 MTN8 with Moroka Swallows and the 2014 Telkom Knockout with SuperSport United, both prestigious titles in South African football.

Additionally, Chenene proudly represented the national team Bafana Bafana, earning three caps between 2007 and 2008.

His experience and knowledge of the game make him a valuable mentor for the young players he aims to support.

Chenene's efforts to aid the youth of Zastron are particularly significant given the town's rich football legacy.

Zastron has produced outstanding talents, including two of the greatest football players, Luvolwethu Mpeta and Simphiwe Mafene.

By stepping in to support the young athletes, Chenene hopes to once again highlight Zastron in the soccer world, inspiring a new generation to follow in the footsteps of these footballing icons.
