Operation Shanela II: Officers from Welkom Public Order Police (POP) are actively working to reduce illegal activities in identified crime hotspots within the Lejweleputswa District.

Over the weekend in Thabong, four suspects were apprehended in separate incidents.

On Saturday, 12 September 2026, around 12:30, members of Platoon 3 received a tip-off while performing crime-combating tasks.

This information led them to a residence on Chalale Street, Thabong.

Upon arriving at the location, they encountered a 30-year-old woman suspected of drug dealing.

The suspect was found with 23 medium-sized zip-lock bags and 12 small zip-lock bags, all containing suspected CAT drugs and cash.

She was arrested for possession of substances believed to be drugs.

On Sunday, 13 September 2026, during patrol duties in Thabong, they noticed a person acting suspiciously.

The police requested and were granted permission to search him.

During the search, they found two live rounds of ammunition in his pocket.

He failed to provide a reasonable explanation for possessing the ammunition.

The 29-year-old man was arrested for possession of unlicensed ammunition.

Later that day, in a separate incident, a 37-year-old man was arrested after being found with suspected CAT drugs and crystal meth.

Officers then pursued additional information provided to them.

This led them to another residence in Thabong.

Upon arrival, they encountered a 49-year-old woman.

Permission to search was requested and granted.

During the search, police found a transparent bag containing 20 rocks believed to be CAT drugs and cash in the suspect's pocket.

The female suspect was arrested for possession of substances suspected to be drugs.

The confiscated items were logged as evidence for further investigation.
