SUSPECT DETAINED FOR ASSAULT AFTER VIDEO GOES VIRAL

After a video clip emerged on various social media platforms showing a physical altercation where a male individual is seen attacking a 21-year-old woman, police have confirmed that a 22-year-old high school student has been arrested and charged.

A University of the Free State (UFS) student teacher was attacked while doing her teaching practicals near Lekhulong Secondary School in Rocklands, Bloemfontein.

The incident has gained widespread attention on social media after the video of the altercation was circulated.

According to Masego Mogorosi, a UFS student completing her practical training at the school, the incident happened while she and a colleague were on their way to buy lunch.

The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on 12 June 2026.

The police strongly urge calm and request space to allow the investigation to proceed naturally.

The SAPS takes all acts of violence, especially against the vulnerable, very seriously and is dedicated to ensuring justice is served.
