DIHLABENG MUNICIPALITY GHOST EMPLOYEES GRANTED BAIL

Dihlabeng Local Municipality ghost employees, Reitumetse Moeng 28, and Moeketsi Calvin Motloung 48, appeared in the Bethlehem Magistrates Court on Monday 14, for fraud.

The accused were released on R5 000 bail each.

The pair is alleged to have received a monthly salary of about R10 000 each from the Dihlabeng Local Municipality without ever showing up for work.

In 2021, the Bethlehem Serious Corruption Investigation detectives were alerted about unknown people appearing on the municipality's payroll.

Evidence was collected and presented before the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for a decision on whether or not to prosecute.

On Monday 14 July, the accused were arrested and brought before court where the case was postponed to 14 August 2025.

Investigations continue.
