On Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Premier Maquuen Letsoha-Mathae, along with Members of the Executive responsible for Education, Health, Economic Development and Tourism, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, and Acting Director-General Dr. Motsamai Motsoari, met with a Russian delegation led by the Ambassador to South Africa, His Excellency Roman Ambarov.

This marks only the second visit of HE Ambarov to the Free State.

The Provincial Executive Council is intensively working to invigorate the economy and generate jobs.

The Premier’s recent investment missions to China and Italy, just a month ago, have attracted significant investors to the province.

With billions in investments anticipated, Premier Letsoha-Mathae is fully committed.

The Premier's relentless pursuit of investment is based on her declaration during the 2026 State of the Province Address (SOPA) that: “This is the Year of Decisive Action to Fix Local Government and Transform the Economy.”

The high-level delegation engaged in a variety of investment and exchange programs.

This investment-focused interaction aims to result in concrete, mutually beneficial bilateral agreements that will primarily promote growth and create numerous employment opportunities for locals.

To solidify the positive discussions, the Premier and the Ambassador's meeting was immediately followed by an engagement between Heads of Departments and some members of the Russian delegation.

Premier Letsoha-Mathae told His Excellency Ambarov, “The Free State is a place of many possibilities, and we have a lot to offer. Let’s explore various ways in which we can partner and both derive joy for our people. The Free State is ready to do business and to forge a lasting partnership.”
