HAWKS REQUEST HELP TO FIND PERSON OF INTEREST AFTER SASOLBURG CASH-IN-TRANSIT

The Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) detectives from the Hawks in Welkom are looking for Mothoezane Xaba, from Daza Hostel, whose photo is attached, as a person of interest who might aid in the investigation of an armed cash-in-transit robbery that took place on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, in Sasolburg.

Reports indicate that security guards were performing their routine cash collection duties at retailers in Sasolburg when an unknown suspect confronted one of the guards, threatening him with a firearm.

A bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

Approximately five suspects fled in a blue Nissan Tiida with registration number CY28TPGP.

The security guards chased the suspects to Minaar Street in Vaalpark, where the suspects reportedly abandoned the vehicle and hijacked an Amarax Quantum minibus with registration number MD45GVGP, along with its driver.

The suspects then headed towards the Vereeniging taxi rank, where they left the minibus and boarded a taxi going to Vosloorus.

During the shooting, two nearby vehicles and several building walls were damaged.

No deaths or injuries were reported.

Xaba, who is wanted for questioning in relation to the investigation, is believed to originally be from KwaZulu-Natal.
