JABU MBALULA NAMED AS INTERIM PREMIER

The Premier of the Free State, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, has designated Jabu Mbalula, the MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport, as Acting Premier of the Free State Province while she is abroad on official duties.
This appointment is effective from May 4 to May 11, 2026, ensuring continuous governance during the Premier’s absence.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Free State Division of the High Court on Monday, 4 May 2026, overseen by Judge President Cagney John Musi.
Present at the event were the Director-General, Dr Molefinyana Phera, and the Acting Deputy Director-General for Corporate Administration, Adv. Kuni Ditira.
Premier Letsoha-Mathae also appointed Elzabe Rockman, the MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Affairs, as the Acting MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism for the same period, from 4 May to 11 May 2026.
