MAJOR GENERAL THABANG SOLOMON LESIA APPOINTED AS NEW PROVINCIAL SAPS COMMISSIONER

Major General Thabang Solomon Lesia has been named the new Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
With over thirty years of experience in policing, he possesses a profound understanding of operational environments.
The Premier of the Free State, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, expressed her approval of Major General Lesia's appointment, highlighting its significance at a crucial time when combating crime and rebuilding public trust are key priorities.
"This appointment is timely for our province, where addressing crime and restoring public confidence in law enforcement are essential. We are particularly encouraged that Major General Lesia, being a Free Stater, comprehends the specific challenges, dynamics, and needs of our communities," said Letsoha-Mathae.
The Premier also emphasized that Major General Lesia provides the leadership, stability, and institutional knowledge necessary to enhance crime prevention and improve service delivery throughout the province.
She mentioned that the Provincial Government is eager to collaborate closely with the new Commissioner to intensify efforts against crime, particularly gender-based violence and femicide, drug-related offences, and organized criminal activities.
"We are confident that his appointment will positively impact the development of safer communities and strengthen cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the residents of the Free State. The people of the Free State deserve a police service that is responsive, professional, and accountable. We believe this appointment brings us closer to achieving that goal," stated Premier Letsoha-Mathae.
