The Zastron Community Soccer League has emerged as a beacon of hope in the local community, designed specifically to provide a constructive outlet for youth aged 15 to 17. Recognising the alarming rise in drug use and crime among young people, community leaders have come together to establish this soccer league, with the primary goal of steering the youth away from harmful influences and towards a more positive and healthier lifestyle through the beautiful game of soccer.

By focusing on soccer, the league not only promotes physical fitness and teamwork but also fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie among participants.

The organisers believe that engaging young boys in sports can significantly reduce their likelihood of falling into the traps of substance abuse and criminal activities.

The league aims to create a safe and nurturing environment where kids can channel their energy into something productive, ultimately promoting both personal development and community cohesion.

The league has garnered support from local businesses, with BUYEYE SECURITY stepping in as the official sponsor for the under-15 category, while Nthuseng Makgajane has taken on the sponsorship for the under-17 teams.

This financial backing is crucial, as it allows the league to cover essential expenses and provide a structured framework for the teams to compete effectively.

Each participating team is contributing an affiliation fee of R100, which helps to fund various aspects of the league, including referees and other logistical needs.

Leading the charge is the Zastron Community League Board Chairman, Ntate Ratone, whose vision and dedication have been instrumental in bringing this initiative to life.

Under his leadership, the league has successfully registered 12 teams, each eager to participate and showcase their skills on the field.

The enthusiasm among the players and their families reflects a shared commitment to fostering a healthier community through sports.

However, the organisers are aware that to achieve their goals, they need the support of various stakeholders within the community.

They are actively reaching out to local businesses, organisations, and individuals to seek sponsorships that could further enhance the league's offerings.

Additionally, they are requesting donations in the form of soccer balls, kits, and other essential equipment to ensure that all players have access to the necessary resources to participate fully and enjoy the sport.

Furthermore, the organisers are appealing to the local municipality for assistance in promoting the league and providing the necessary infrastructure to support the games.

This includes access to well-maintained soccer fields and facilities where the youth can practice and compete safely.
