A 58-year-old detective from the Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit in Fouriesburg was arrested on Friday, the 28th, by the Bethlehem-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team.

The arrest was prompted by intelligence that led the investigator to secure a search warrant and visit the suspect’s home.

During the search, the South African Police Service (SAPS) found bags containing cellphones, used buccal samples, unfinished dockets, police registers, and ammunition.

The suspect was arrested on the spot, and all items were confiscated for further investigation.

This marks the second arrest of the same officer this month.

Earlier in November, a search at his home uncovered an unlicensed firearm.

He was arrested, appeared in court, and was later released on bail.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Bethlehem Magistrates' Court soon for alleged illegal possession of ammunition and suspected stolen property.

Major General Mokgadi Bokaba, the provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), stated: "The Hawks remain committed to rooting out criminality within law enforcement and ensuring that those who betray the badge are held accountable."
