The residents of Zastron, Matlakeng, are calling for the restoration of the community hall, which has been left in shambles and is becoming a crime hotspot.
The community hall has also raised concerns among parents when it comes to the safety of their children who use the hall as their playing ground.
To those residing close, the recent state of the community hall brings nothing but terror.
It is noted that criminals hide inside the building while waiting for their next victim at night.
Crime in the area has drastically risen due to the bad state of the community hall and Matlakeng Stadium.
Kabelo Mfetsela, 27, residing near Matlakeng Stadium and the Hall, reiterated that crime used to be something they'd read about in the newspaper, but since the dire state of these particular areas, they live in fear of criminals.
"Zastron used to be a safe place. We have never lived in fear of getting mugged while walking at night, but recently things have changed for the worse. The dire state of both the community hall and the stadium provided an opportunity for criminals to instill fear within our people. It is not safe to walk at night, and it is also not safe for the children who play inside the community hall", said Mfetsela.
He is pleading with the municipality to consider restoring these two places since they are situated in the centre of the township and contribute to the rising number of crimes.
