In the heart of Zastron, Matlakeng, 32-year-old sketching artist Oratilwe (Shakes) Senoamadi is redefining local success by transforming a natural talent into a sustainable livelihood.
In an economic landscape where traditional employment is scarce, Senoamadi has leveraged his creative skill set to bypass the limitations of the local job market.
Recognising that the traditional route of job seeking might delay his professional goals, Senoamadi transitioned from hobbyist to entrepreneur.
“I realised that constantly submitting CVs would only stall my dreams. What began as sketching for leisure evolved into a business once the community began commissioning portraits. I soon recognised a viable market and decided to pursue art as means to put bread on the table”, said Senoamadi.
A vision for community empowerment
Senoamadi's ambitions extend beyond personal success.
The self-taught artist aspires to establish a community art gallery and training centre for the youth of Matlakeng.
This initiative will aim to showcase local Talent: Provide a professional platform for emerging artists to gain international exposure.
Offer structured art mentorship to empower the next generation of creatives.

A prominent business owner Xolile Ntlakane, has offered a lending help to Senoamadi by displaying his work at his establishment (Makasana Carwash).
The carwash is popular for it's exceptional clientele service and entertainment.
Senoamadi credits this collaboration as a vital catalyst for his growth.
However, he emphasises that the ultimate success of this venture rests with the people of Zastron and surrounding areas.
“My dream can only prevail with the continued patronage of the community of Matlakeng. They were the ones who first recognised my potential, and I am calling on them to help me change the status quo for our youth”, said Senoamadi.
